The FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany’s only state distance-learning university, catering to over 72,000 students, providing flexible and accessible higher education opportunities to students in diverse life situations. The university conducts extensive theoretical and applied research across its five faculties, its central research unit CATALPA, and interdisciplinary research clusters.
At CATALPA, over 60 researchers collaborate to support personalized learning using AI and adaptive systems and to understand the diversity of learners and teachers as a natural part of teaching.
To expand the team, CATALPA is now filling the position of a
Your Tasks:
- Design, develop and implement research software infrastructures and educational technology prototypes
- Design and develop infrastructures for research data collection, aggregation, maintenance and research data management
- Design and develop scalable data solutions for education and integration of machine learning and educational data mining approaches
- Link to existing work in learning analytics, educational data mining, multi-modal analytics, as well as computational psychometrics and data science.
- Design and develop solution for personal learner modelling and intelligent tutoring environments based on interactive workbooks (for example Jupyter notebooks) and logging of learner activities
- Design and develop infrastructures for personalized and group experiment in tutoring and personalized learning
- Advising and engaging PhD candidates
Your Profile:
- Master degree and PhD in Data Science, Computer Science or comparable
- Strong background in Data Science and Computational Data Analysis
- Strong background in machine learning and educational data mining
- Experience in Learning Technology, Technology-Based Assessment, Learning Analytics
- Ideally a strong respective publication record
- Ability to conduct highly visible and high-impact research and to contribute to acquisition of external projects
- Ability to supervise Master Thesis and PhD candidates with support for research software development
